Learn French out loud

French is made for speaking.

Talk with an AI tutor every day. A lesson plan built around your goal, and a tutor who corrects you as you speak. Conversations that get you ready for real life.

  • iPhone & Android
  • 7 days free on the annual plan
  • Your voice is never recorded

How it works

Three steps to your first conversation

  1. Tell us your goal

TEF or TCF, settling in Canada or France, work, studies or travel. Then your level, your pace and the time of day that suits you.

  2. Get your plan

A lesson plan built for your goal, with an estimate of your level and your first conversation ready to go.

  3. Talk, every day

Up to 30 minutes of spoken conversation a day. Your tutor corrects you, and your words come back for review at the right time.

What’s inside

Everything you need to speak, nothing you don’t

Real conversations, out loud

Hold the mic, speak, and your tutor answers in French, live. No typing, no multiple choice. Just you and a voice that waits for you.

A plan built for your goal

Lessons in the right order for what you need French for.

Role-plays for real life

Pick a scene from the catalogue, choose a topic of the day, or write your own scenario.

Reviews at the right time

Your words and mistakes come back just before you’d forget them.

Your level, estimated

A CEFR level, with the NCLC equivalent for Canada, based on how you actually speak. It is an estimate, not an official exam result.

See it

A conversation, then a clear recap

Each lesson ends in a real exchange. Afterwards you see what to keep: your score, your progress, and the words worth learning.

  • A scene, a role and a mission for every conversation
  • Your tutor answers live, and can rephrase or translate
  • A recap with your strengths, your slips and new words

Your voice

Your voice stays yours.

You speak out loud, so we’re careful with it.

  • Never recorded

No audio file is ever stored. Your voice is streamed live to Google (Gemini) for the conversation, then it’s gone.

  • Only the text is kept

So you can reread your conversations, we keep the written transcript. You can delete your account and your data in the app.

  • Statistics only if you say yes

Usage statistics are off until you agree, and you can change your mind at any time.

FAQ

Good questions

Do I need to speak French already?

No. You tell us your level when you start, from complete beginner up, and your tutor adapts to it and to how you actually speak.

Is my voice recorded?

No. Your voice is streamed live to Google (Gemini) for the conversation and is never recorded: no audio file is stored. Only the written transcript of your conversations is kept, so you can reread them.

Is my level an official result?

No. Levels and scores are estimates. They are not official TEF, TCF or other exam results.

Who am I talking to?

An AI tutor, not a person. It speaks French with you, adjusts to your level, and corrects you after the conversation.

How does the free trial work?

The annual plan starts with 7 days free. Cancel before the end of the trial in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings and you won’t be charged. The monthly plan has no trial.

Which phones does it run on?

iPhone and Android. TryFrench is built for the phone, because that’s where you’ll talk.

Who is it for?

Anyone aged 16 or older who wants to speak French, whether for an exam, a move, work, study or travel.
